Wastewater Operator/Maintenance Worker

Wastewater Operator/Maintenance Worker position available with the Village of Ephraim. Primary duties include the completion of all operational and maintenance related activities in the Public Works Department as well as being part of a working team.

This is a full time position offering a competitive benefits package including a no-deductible health insurance plan with dental coverage, enrollment in the Wisconsin Retirement System and annual compensation reviews. There is also tuition reimbursement plan for job related training.

Village of Ephraim Position Description

 Department: Docks/Coastal Management              

Title: Assistant Dockmaster

Status: Part-Time Hourly Non-Exempt                  Accountable to: Village Administrator

 Function:   General coordination of Village-owned Docks. Reporting to the Village Administrator.

 Job Duties

  1. Regular hours at Firehouse Marina from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend to assist and greet boaters, help at launch ramp and Anderson Dock as needed; check tie lines at both Village facilities on a daily basis, especially as required in rough weather.
  2. Assign transient slips at Village facilities; and collect fees.
  3. Issue launch ramp permits and collect launch ramp fees.
  4. Keep such records as may be requested from time to time by the Village Office.
  5. As pertains to public safety and fair use of the Docks, mooring areas, beach, harbor and parking facilities observe and report any problem violators to proper authorities.
  6. General routine painting, repair or maintenance of areas in and around water, ramps,  docks, dingy and parking areas; report items needing more attention to Village Office.
  7. Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and dock area.
  8. Assist Maintenance department with maintenance of downtown Village properties and   garbage pickup during times of inclement boating weather.
  9. Assist Maintenance department with maintenance of downtown Village properties and garbage pickup before and or after set marina hours (do be discussed and arranged with Village Administrator.)

 Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ability to work well with the public, and work well without direct supervision.
  2. Ability to handle financial transactions as required.
  3. Good working knowledge of lawn maintenance skills, equipment operation and safety requirements.
  4. Ability to use and maintain power tools such as a rider and push mowers, hedge trimmers, chain saws, leaf blowers, etc. according to the standard operating guidelines of the department .
  5. Ability to sit, kneel, bend, stoop, walk or climb, carry as required to complete janitorial or grounds maintenance projects.

Education/Training/Experience Required:

  1. Previous boating experience preferred
  2.  Working knowledge of boating and marine regulations

Experience with lawn-maintenance equipment, including power equipment such as mowers, line trimmers, chain saws, and other power equipment.


Position Description

Plant Operator/Maintenance Worker

Title:   Plant Operator/Maintenance Worker

Status: Hired, full-time hourly

Accountable to: Public Works Supervisor, Village Administrator, and Village Board

FUNCTION: Maintenance, operation, and repair of all Village facilities including but not limited to grade 1 wastewater plant and collection system, village properties, grounds, and roads as needed and directed by the Public Works Supervisor.

JOB DUTIES

I.  Essential

A.  Exercises oversight, coordination, and completion of tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the Village of Ephraim Public Works Department.

    B. Reporting

1.  Assist in accurate tracking of expenditures against the department’s yearly budget with respect to daily operations. Provide Public Works Supervisor necessary financial information including PO’s, invoices, bills, receipts as well as Wastewater related data including water quality sampling and testing, daily computer based and manual record keeping, calculations for chemical feed rates and dosage as directed.

   C.  Wastewater

1.  This position provides for complete and independent operation of a Grade 1 Wastewater Plant and Collection System, including water quality sampling and

testing, daily computer based and manual record keeping, calculations, carrying out required safety procedures, maintaining chemical feed equipment and routine maintenance and cleaning.

2.  This position requires meticulousness, manual dexterity, problem solving, mathematical calculations and sound deductive reasoning.

3.  Employees are expected to assist during emergencies and some overtime will be required, as well as some holidays.

4.  Operators are expected to work in the laboratory and be able to perform BOD, TSS, DO and PH tests, plant operation control tests, as well as tests associated with a drinking water laboratory.

5.  All Wastewater and Maintenance department staff will be asked to work in both departments of Public Works as scheduled and as directed by their supervisor when the work load in one department demands it.

 D.  Building/Property Maintenance

1.  General Maintenance of all village infrastructure including basic repairs and sanitation.

2.  Maintenance of village parks and grounds

3.  Collection and proper disposal of Village generated garbage/recycling materials

E.  Guiding Principals

1.  Work to maintain the picturesque and historical appearance of the Village of Ephraim

2.  Work to maintain an attitude of continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility

3. Because many duties are performed in a public setting it is essential that employees maintain a friendly and helpful attitude and decorum with the public and other employees

4.  It is expected that all duties and responsibilities be performed in accordance with a cooperative and respectful attitude towards all concerned.

II.  Skills, Additional Duties, and Qualifications

A.  Must be able to work well independently as well as maintain effective working relationships with associates, other employees and the public.

B.  Possession of or ability to obtain: Grade 1 restricted Septage Servicing Operator Certificate, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), annual certification for CPR. Position does require random drug testing.

C.  The ability to wear and work with a respirator. Work is routinely performed with and using hazardous materials and in confined spaces

D.  Employee is expected to live within a reasonable distance of their assigned location and have a reliable means of transportation.

E.  Employee must be able to see, hear, feel, talk, write, and respond to the written and/or verbal directions of the Public Works Supervisor

F.  Employee must have a good working knowledge of general maintenance skills, equipment, and safety requirements

G.  Employee must be able to work outdoors in difficult working conditions

H.  Employee must be able to safely use power tools such as mowers, string trimmers, saws, drills, sanders, grinders, etc

I.  Employee must be able to lift and carrying heavy loads of materials, tools, and debris

J.  Employee must be able to work above ground on ladders and scaffolding

K.  Employee must be able to sit, kneel, bend ,stoop, stand, walk, or climb as required to complete the project at hand

L.  Employee is strongly encouraged to avail himself/herself of available training and opportunities to obtain certifications in Wastewater Operations, and other training in support of village operations.

M.  Other duties as assigned by Public Works Supervisor

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

A.  High school diploma or equal plus the ability to obtain a Wastewater Operators license from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

B.  Experience with maintenance and common maintenance related equipment
